Firefox users look here!

Turabdin

Hello everyone.

Now i don't know if this has been posted before and i really don't care because I'm only trying to help you folks. As you all may know the Armory page (and a lot of other pages as well) take a long time to load and sometimes does not even load at all, probably working as intended.

Well never the less i came across this very nice feature that sort of speeds up your Firefox by changing the way it works. This feature will make your Firefox browser load multiple things at the same time instead of just one thing.

This feature is Pipelining!

By default Firefox is optimized for dial-up connections and that is why this feature isn't enabled from the start, so bear in mind that you should only do this if you have something better than a 56k dial-up connection(which most people should have in this day and age).

By default Firefox works like this, for instance, when you go to www.wow-europe.com this is what happens:

Download picture 1, download picture 2, download picture 3, download that text, and so forth.
-------------1--------------------------2-----------------------3----------------------------4------------------5------------...

This feature will make Firefox work like this

Download picture 1----------------Page fully loaded
Download picture 2
Download picture 3
Download that text
and so forth
-------------1-------------------------------------2---------------

So instead of waiting 5 seconds, you only have to wait 2. By Sylvanas! That is truly amazing!

And how do we achieve this? Well it is a lot easier than you may think!

Open Firefox, and at the address field type "about:config". A lot of stuff should be on your screen. At the Filter field type "network.http". Lesser things should be on your screen.

Maneuver yourself down to these lines and do the following:

Change network.http.pipelining to "true"
Change network.http.proxy.pipelining to "true"
Change network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to something like 30 (this will allow Firefox to make 30 requests at once)

Lastly, and I'm not sure if its necessary or not but do this. Right-click anywhere and select New -> Integer, name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set it's value to “0";. This option apparently sets the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on the information it receives.

OK, you should be done now and Firefox should load up pages(especially the Armory) faster than usual.
A random friend of mine was very successful when preforming these options on his own computer, and he was following my instructions per phone, and if he can do it, so can you!

If it didn't work, go do something else ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: Because of the great response to this I have decided to include another great tip for you guys out there.

NEW TIP:!!!

As you all know, we who play World of Warcraft have always used some kind of database for our quests, items, and general information concerning the game. This neat little feature will make your search for things, on for instance www.wowhead.com somewhat easier, but it may takes some time to get used to it i might add.

Go to your favorite search engine and right-click on the search box(where you write what you search for), go down to the option "Add keyword for this search". A new little window will pop up, and there you will have two fields to fill in. The first one is the name for this "search shortcut", name it anything you may find fitting. Directly under that you have the keyword field(this is the keyword you are going to use). I myself am using the keyword "wowh" for www.wowhead.com. You should use a keyword that is short(faster to write) and easy to remember.

Now you are all set. To use this feature just type in the address field(shortcut to get there is Control+L): "(your keyword here) swift nether drake". I would type in "wowh swift nether drake".

This can be done in which ever homepage you are currently browsing at the time. You will instantly jump to wowhead.com and search for swift nether drake.

Now... go browse!!

PS: Works on The Armory as well...

Please don't kill me, I'm only trying to help people.

Druids are like hippies, and Eric Cartman hates hippies, therefore Eric Cartman hates Druids. So if you are a Druid, you should run. BECAUSE ERIC CARTMAN IS COMING TO GET YOU!
