Few servers?

Why are we so few servers in this battlegroup? when i look at battlegroup 1, they've got like 15 realms and we only get 4, logic?

couldnt you all blizzard people make one big battlegroup out of all the RP and RP-PvP servers? maybe then we wouldnt have to kill "omgnub" or "bigcow" and so on....

i know blizz wont read this thread even if all forums except the battlegroup ruin forum goes down but anyway

The realms in each Battlegroup are grouped together due to their backend system and language. Unfortunately this means Battlegroups have different size, from 4 to 20 realms. Changing this is far from simple, taking a lot of resources and making the game unavailable for quite some time (and not only for those in the Battlegroup to be addressed), and while I won't rule it out it's unlikely to happen at this point. It was done once, before the opening of the Cross-Realm Batlegrounds, to avoid even smaller Battlegroups.

That said, we'll make sure to bring it up again to see whether there are (other) options we may pursue.

While we don't have much of an update on this at the moment we wanted to at least assure you this is not a forgotten concern. Unfortunately a short-term option can result in blocking a better long-term option, hence we wish to look at all possibilities again before seeing how we can address the Battlegroup concerns. This is among the reasons why Molten Core was opened in Nightfall, not in Ruin.

I'm afraid I can't speculate in or even list different options at this time, as such would surely lead to favourites being picked and no end to the discussions should we go for another one for reasons we can't disclose.

Q u o t e:
The poster above said something. So can we actually know what would happened if Molten Core was added to RUIN?

Adding realms to one of the smaller Battlegroups (e.g. Ruin and Todbringer) would limit the options should merging them with other groups (wholly or by splitting them) be a solution we find technically viable.

With the Battlegroups and Arena system and seasons, moving realms like was done prior to the cross-realm Battlegrounds is a much more delicate process, hence this is something needing very thorough investigation and consideration.

Q u o t e:
Thundgot you have to realize PVP has a very hard influence over PVE. I personally wouldnt mind having my server being taken off for a reasonable ammount of time so we could be included into a bigger battlegroup. Currently most of out pve guilds are migrating and the server is dying please this has to be adressed before the realm consists of kara only guilds!

Unfortunately moving one or more realms doesn't only lead to downtime for the realms involved. Also, while some are certainly happy to take that downtime ("reasonable" being a rather unspecific term), others may not be equally enthusiastic about it.

Q u o t e:
It isn't just Ruin that would be affected, the destination/host battlegroup would have to suffer some maintenance time as well.

Let's say for arguments sake they decided to get rid of Ruin completely and move 2 servers into one battlegroup and the other 2 servers into another battlegroup, that would be a total of 3 battlegroups affected, depending on which were involved you could be talking about anything from 10 to 30 servers being interrupted.

On that scale of servers you've got to be talking into the 100,000's of players that are at loss, it's not something they can just ask everyone on those effected realms.

Much correct, but there are more realms affected too. We'll get back to that if this turns out to be the solution.

Q u o t e:
Thundgot if you would like to enlighten me as to the vast technical minefield that is your infrastructure please feel free to look up my registered email address and drop me a line. I'd love to hear about the mysterious gnomish super computers you are using that make this such a mammoth task, that months of discussion could leave some very well paid technical staff completely oblivious to a solution.

You're not really expecting me to just send you inside information about out infrastructure, I hope. :-p

Some seem to think this has been the only thing on the slate for 8 months though, and that this would have no dependencies. With game updates, Arena seasons, hardware upgrades etc, there are many factors to running WoW. While the smaller Battlegroups is definitely a concern of ours, it has to be seen in conjunction with everything else that happens, and in that bigger picture "just merge with this other Battlegroup" or other options are far from as easy as they may sound.
