1. The poll targets an audience who's interested in providing this kind of input; active forum users. Statistics in that group might differ from in-game statistics, and the difference may be interesting to observe.
2. The results of a poll is (usually) visible to everyone, and some players might be curious. We won't let you peek at our database, so this is a good substitute.
3. It's much more fun to interact with you guys than stare at numbers in a database. :-)
