Bnet Merging Questions
by Greyphus | 13/10/2009 12:25:01![]() Greetings, I just read the news on the wow-europe.com website about the forced merging of all existing accounts. On that account I have a couple of questions that have not been answered by the FAQs or other threads (at least i didnt find any with the forum search funcion). 1) If I create an account on bnet (which is the email) will I be able to change that account name? In other words, it can happen that you put in an email (let's say xxxx@yyyy.com) and you don't log in that mail for a while incurring in the loss of that mail account (some mail providers cancel your mail account after some time you don't access in it). What happens in case someone else uses your mail username because it became available for the others and receives your personal information that blizzard keep sending to that email(something similar with the naming policy in each server. Once a char is deleted or transfered his name becomes available to everyone after some time). 2) What are your legal limitations on this clause?
To give an idea, phone companies have no right to listen to your conversation... why would you be granted that right? The law enforcers have to get a warrant to check on your conversations and you basically are bypassing something not even the law enforcers have the right to do... Presently i'm not interested in knowing why you want to obtain this disclaimer (I perfectly understand your interest in nailing infringers of your rules, but that is not the issue here) but what are the limits of this imposed clause. 3) Considering that every person will have only 1 bnet account, what happens if someone gets his bnet account banned (for whatever reason you can think of) and after some time buys a new package of your product and wants to restart clean having learned from his/her mistake.?(considering that you can only enter your personal information once and that info has been banned) 4) Merging all blizzard games into one massive account helps people to better manage their games and accounts but on the other side also allows many more chances of gaps for hackers and fishers. Should one of your game present a gap on security it would jeopardise the entire bnet account rendering totally unsuable every single blizzard product purchased. Have you already thought of a countermeasure? blizz authenticator is a good start but definitely not enough to fight the modern and future pirates. 5) Lastly, legally speaking, what are the limitations of this clause in the bnet merging contract?
If we are speaking about banning or any in-game sanction that is one thing, if this clause means you can knock on my door asking me for any sort of "irreparable damages" fee without a single shred of proof of damage or whatsoever information you are once again ignoring the principle of law of burden of proof which is not disclaimable in any country in the world. So what's blizzard position on this aspect? EDIT: PS: If any you blizzard forum staff is not able or doesn't want to answer to these somewhat technical questions I would be gratefull if at least you could point out who in the whole blizzard staff (legal department or whatever) is able to give an official answer to these questions.
