Answer to my locked thread on class balance
| by Petyte | 27/11/2006 22:24:02 Here's my answer to a thread that got locked because it dared use the N word: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=88828974&sid=1 I guess the goal is make class forums insular communities and force dissent into a suggestion forum that nobody reads (did I break another "guideline" by questioning the infinite wisdom of the people who moderate this board?). Not that it matters much, it's just a game after all. I think the best solution to the current obvious class imbalance should come from the warlock community, and this forum seems to be the best place to have that discussion. What are warlocks ready to give up to balance things out a bit better? From my perspective deathcoil is fine and I think something more lighthanded could do the trick. If shards are intended to be the balancing mechanism for warlocks, that works better than expected in PVE but doesn't in PVP. They're an annoyance mainly. As I said in the previous thread, I have relatively extended PVP experience with both my mage and warlock, as well as some priest and warrior experience to round it up. Most people answering my post obviously don't, and seem only interested in preserving the status quo, regardless of whether it's remotely fair and balanced. It's even quite probable I have more PVP experience on my lock alone than many people posting here, but feel free to characterize me as a mage troll if that makes you feel superior. Smart readers know what ad hominems and straw man arguments are and will just wave your trolling aside. If your reading comprehension is too low to bother addressing the substance of my post, or if you think you're actually smart by copying and pasting a boiler plate form that was fun the first time if was posted (emphasis on "first time"), move along. The reality of the matter is, I'm not "a mage" or a "a warlock" or any other fictional character. I'm a player who happens to play a variety of classes, including a warlock I love. I have no problem focusing on my warlock once come BC given how things seem to be titled. I always have the other toons when I want more of an uphill battle (ok, the priest isn't either!) Fear and seduce are powerful escape spells because they don't automatically break on damage (let alone heal their target). Every 15 minutes a Master Summoner warlock probably has the best "combat reset" capacity of any class (which is actually usable often enough with battleground queues and afaik will be usable in arenas). But if you don't get this, sure, don't bother, keep thinking that deathcoil is your only escape mechanism. And it that's not enough for you, add engineering to the mix (though that's not going to work in Arenas). If this needs clarification, since the start, I meant by "escape mechanism" anything you can use to delay what looked like certain death and keep you up and fighting. So here's the money shot again: warlocks trade less mobility for damage potential than all other classes save maybe hunters and shadow priests (and by all mean tone down these classes a bit too). If you're too stupid to realize it or too biased to acknowledge it, go troll someone else's thread. At least people playing every other class in the game know it. Warlocks are also less gear dependent than many other classes to stand a chance. These are legitimate sources of concern if everyone is going to be allowed their share of fun in PVP. I am not claiming that turning Corruption into a 0.5s cast (without talent but also without a way to make it instant) is THE solution to making warlocks a bit less powerful in PVP. It seems to me the PVE consequences are not game breaking, and it would force warlocks staying on their toes. It's obvious you have a wider margin for screwing up with a warlock or priest than with a warrior or rogue (or, yes, a mage), and if you're not totally stupid or disingenuous, you know it. That doesn't call for a huge nerf bat on locks, but I rest my case that it needs some rebalancing. Sorry if using the N word offends you so much. Feel free to disagree with the proposed solution, but disagreeing that locks are (overall) currently overpowered is just bad faith. Again, Blizzard will need to address this at some point, and if the solution doesn't come from us, I'm not sure we're going to like it. |
