24/06 - Realms and Migration
by Ancilorn | 24/06/2009 16:00:33![]() Previous thread: 17/06 - Realms and Migration Recommended realms Normal/PvE: Terokkar, Kilrogg PvP: Vek'nilash, Dentarg RP: Darkmoon Faire RP PvP: Sporeggar Free Character Migration (FCM) There is currently no FCM available. Please note: FCM is opened based on realm population tracking and analysis, not by request. If you're looking for a specific migration (from realm A to realm B), you are in most cases better off using Paid Character Transfer, or you could end up waiting for a very long time. Paid Character Transfers (PCT) All English realms follow the regular PCT rules, found here: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/faq/paidcharactertransfer.html "Once we jumped off the boat and into the jungle, we cranked up the volume and marched to our own drummer..." by Thundgot | 24/06/2009 17:44:53![]() Ok, I'll be nice and answer every bit of this post (questions and statements) properly then. :p Yes we can. No. It's because realm population fluctuates, and we prefer to recommend those PvE realms that can house all the new players who will pick a realm the coming week. If we kept the tags longer we'd have to review the "Recommended" tags every day instead of once per week. No. Silence is proof that we have either not seen the questions, or that we have decided not to respond (often because we have answered before and hope some helpful player will enlighten the one asking). That we choose not to respond doesn't make any statement of yours more or less true. ;) Community Team - English "Treat your password like your toothbrush. If the question you refer to is "will you open a new (PvP) realm soon?" - seen a few times in this thread already - then the answer is in the FAQ, and has been there for quite some time. Frequently Asked Questions (Jun 23rd 2009) Q: Are you planning on opening any new realms very soon? A: Unless there's a sticky thread about it in the General forum or news about it on the website; no. Community Team - English "Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don't let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months." - Clifford Stoll |

The text you quoted in your post (i.e. my previous reply) already kinda answered that question. Of course, you could argue semantics, which someone already did, in which case I can say that we always consider opening new realms. once those considerations end up with "yes", we will let you know. Telling you "no" every day is not much use, hence why it's in the FAQ.
Policy and FAQ answer is the same. I only specified PvP as that was the most common question in this thread prior to my reply.
Quickly off the top of my head... 1. You'll be part of an established community where you can be pretty sure the people you meet will hang around, not run off to another realm if they bore of their re-rolled character. 2. By grabbing two gathering professions you can easily make a lot of cash due to the amount of gold high-level players will pay to get materials for leveling professions on their characters. 3. You will find no shortage of resources for your character, like glyphs, enchants, gems, etc, due to the already thriving crafting community.
Single faction transfers are definitely possible, but as migration is always completely optional they have varying effect. When we do consider free character migrations we also take a close look at the faction ratios on the involved realms.
No, because like you we can't predict the future. We can identify trends in realm population, but we won't commit to opening a new realm at a given time (or even opening one at all) based on a trend that might very well change. And making public guesses only brings expectations which will be seen as promises and lead to tears and screaming. Community Team - English "Treat your password like your toothbrush. But of course, opinions vary. I was listing what some may see as good things about starting on an established realm. I have no illusion of everyone agreeing with them. :) However, I was simply answering the question, and did not mean to suggest that the particular question is what decides whether a new realm will be opened. That is - as mentioned many times before - population on existing realms (which we continually monitor for this purpose).
That type of argumentation is useful only for trolling. Please be a bit more constructive when participating on these forums. Edit: added emphasis and the text in brackets. Where? When?
Merging of any two realms would lead to looooong queues. Not likely to happen. Community Team - English "Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don't let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months." - Clifford Stoll |

You might be thinking of the closing of Warsong, Stonemaul, Shadowsong and Molten Core. These were dominated by Russian-speaking players. Keeping those four realms open after the migration to Russian realms would have left them almost absolutely empty (literally, not figuratively), and no current realm can fairly be compared with the situation they were in. That all existing RP-PvP realms have a consistent high population at peak hours, one or more likely flagged as "Full". Community Team - English "Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don't let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months." - Clifford Stoll |
